# Operations and Support

By Redaktion techport.ai, IT-Beratung · Last updated on 21 August 2026

IT operations in mid-sized companies often hang on two or three people who know everything and therefore never take a quiet holiday. That works for a surprisingly long time and then suddenly stops working: when someone resigns, falls ill, or when the company takes its next step in growth.

Dependable operations are not a question of size. They are a question of whether knowledge is documented, whether requests have a defined path, and whether someone notices that something is wrong before the first phone call comes in.

## Typical problems

* Requests arrive by word of mouth, mail, phone and chat. Nobody knows how many there are or which ones repeat.
* Restoring a system has never been rehearsed.
* Workplaces have grown over the years and every machine is a special case.
* There is no overview of which devices, licences and contracts exist and when they expire.
* Incidents are noticed when the departments call.

## What we do in this field

We build a service desk that records, prioritises and evaluates requests, with a knowledge base that catches repetition. We plan infrastructure so that capacity, maintenance and replacement are predictable. We standardise workplaces and devices including mobile device management. We set up monitoring that watches the right things instead of everything. And we bring order to devices, licences and contracts so you know what you have and what it costs.

## Häufige Fragen

Is a ticket system worth it with forty employees?

Yes, and not because of the tickets but because of the analysis. After three months you can see which five questions account for half of all requests. Those are your best candidates for a guide, an automation or a change in the system. Without recording, that knowledge stays in the head of whoever happened to be on duty.

Should we outsource operations?

Parts of it usually yes, all of it rarely. Outsourcing makes sense where standard service is needed and you do not want to build your own depth, for example server operations, networking or device management. What should stay in house is the steering of providers, the knowledge of your own processes, and the decision about what happens to your data.
