# IT that carries the business

Strategy, applications, operations and security as one connected system. For managing directors and IT leaders who want to turn a collection of systems into a reliable foundation.

In most mid-sized companies, IT has grown rather than been planned. Every system had a good reason, every decision made sense on its own, and yet the result is a landscape that nobody fully knows, that is expensive to run and that slows things down whenever a new requirement appears. On top of that come obligations that did not concern anyone five years ago, and a labour market that no longer supplies the people meant to run it all.

We bring together the four things that belong together in IT: a strategy that comes from the business, an application landscape you can explain, operations that work without heroics, and security that holds when it matters.

## The IT process map

We organise a company's IT into eight fields. Five of them follow the path every IT service takes, from the idea to running operations. Three are foundations: without reliable data, without dependable security and without clear obligations, every improvement in the five phases remains patchwork.

The path of an IT service

[Phase 1IT Strategy and SteeringDirection first, technology second

* There is a list of projects but no order that anyone can justify.
* IT costs appear as one line in the accounts and cannot be attributed to any area.

](/en/it-beratung/it-strategie-und-steuerung)[Phase 2Architecture and ApplicationsA landscape you can explain

* The same customer or article number exists in four systems, each with different data.
* An interface between two central systems was built by a former employee and nobody can change it.

](/en/it-beratung/architektur-und-anwendungen)[Phase 3Build and BuyBuy, build or drop it

* Requirements sit in a spreadsheet as keywords, without priority and without reference to a process.
* Vendor comparison runs through presentations in which each vendor shows what they do best.

](/en/it-beratung/entwickeln-und-beschaffen)[Phase 4Rollout and ChangeFrom project to actual use

* Data migration starts once the go-live date has already been fixed.
* There is a project manager but no person in the department who owns the outcome.

](/en/it-beratung/einfuehren-und-veraendern)[Phase 5Operations and SupportRuns without heroics

* Requests arrive by word of mouth, mail, phone and chat. Nobody knows how many there are or which ones repeat.
* Restoring a system has never been rehearsed.

](/en/it-beratung/betrieb-und-support)

What carries every phase

[FoundationData and InformationOne truth instead of five

* Two reports on the same question produce different numbers, and the discussion turns to the calculation instead of the issue.
* Article or customer master data is maintained in several systems without one being authoritative.

](/en/it-beratung/daten-und-information)[FoundationSecurity and ResiliencePrepared rather than surprised

* It is unclear whether the company falls under the new obligations and nobody has checked it on the record.
* There are backups but no successfully tested recovery.

](/en/it-beratung/sicherheit-und-resilienz)[FoundationIT Governance and ComplianceKnow the obligations, hold the evidence

* Nobody has an overview of which obligations affect the company and who owns them.
* The record of processing activities was written in 2018 and never touched since.

## Focus topics

Where the pressure is greatest right now, we take you straight there.

## How we work

Consulting and software are not an either-or for us. Every project goes through three steps, and each step produces a result you can work with, even without us.

1. Step 1

    Analyse

We record applications, infrastructure, contracts, costs and processes, talk to the people who work with them every day, and name what actually slows you down. Result: a position assessment with prioritised fields of action and an estimate of effort and risk.

2. Step 2

    Design

We draft the target picture, settle the architecture and sourcing questions, and clarify security, data protection and works council matters before the technology is chosen. Result: a concept that management, departments and IT support together.

3. Step 3

    Deliver

We select systems with you or rebuild the ones you have, migrate data and stay involved until the systems are genuinely used. Result: running operations with clear ownership, not a project folder.
