Phase 5
Mobility and Leavers
By Redaktion techport.ai, HR-Beratung · Last updated on
Every departure comes at a cost: recruitment, onboarding, loss of productivity, plus the knowledge that leaves with the person. Every internal transfer is the opposite: knowledge remains, onboarding is short, and someone has gained a new perspective. Nevertheless, many companies look externally for what they have internally and let people go without knowing what they take with them.
This area encompasses all movements within and out of the company: transfers, promotions, absences, retirement, resignations. Processes that are rarely designed because they are unpleasant or considered administrative.
Typical Problems
- Vacancies are advertised externally before anyone internally hears about them.
- When someone leaves, access remains open, equipment disappears, and critical customer knowledge departs with them.
- A third of the workforce will reach retirement age in the next ten years, and there is no plan.
- Occupational reintegration management is offered when someone considers it, and documented when the process commences.
- Restructurings are legally sound but poorly executed from a human perspective. The ratings on employer review platforms reflect this for a year.
What we do in this area
We establish an internal talent marketplace that takes precedence over external recruitment. We design offboarding as a process incorporating knowledge transfer, deprovisioning, and farewells. We make the retirement wave predictable, integrate absences and reintegration management into deadline-compliant processes, and ensure that separations are fair, both for those leaving and those remaining.

Frequently asked questions
Why is offboarding worthwhile if the person is leaving anyway?
Because the individual takes with them knowledge, access permissions, and an opinion of you. Knowledge can be transferred, access permissions can be revoked, and their opinion determines whether they return or deter others.
What is the most important first step in managing the retirement wave?
The age structure analysis per department and per critical role. It can be extracted from any HR system and will show where the problem lies in three years, all within an hour.
